About
Born and raised in Memphis, TN, I studied art at the University of Memphis and moved to Connecticut in 2013. After living in a bubble for most of my life, I decided to branch out and see a new perspective of the country with a couple of friends. After all, at the time I was almost 30 and still living with my parents. The Millennial Dream. I prefer to paint people as a coping mechanism for my social anxiety disorder. I’m sure people’s first impression of me is either that of a serial killer or a stand offish snob. I also have horrible A.D.D. (I am not hyperactive, so no “H”) that I have not been able to treat yet. Currently, I live in Middletown, CT with my partner Brian. We do a lot of gay things.
Artist Statement
I am an aggressive introvert. However, I am at the same time fascinated by people. I like capturing people both as they really are and who they are trying to project, a moment in time captured of modern life. I want to capture their authentic self, even if it is while they are pretending. I hope that my artwork is voyeuristic - looking in on a private moment. Because of social media, we are a society of voyeur enthusiasts in a way. Using social media as well as using my own “creeper photos,” photos taken of people while going about my daily life, I hope to capture a realistic time capsule of the times in which we live.
With my social media project, I play on the notion that people feel a need for instant gratification as they constantly expose themselves. Private and unflattering moments are now made public through mass consumed disposable images. I have mocked this notion through my painting by recreating them in a more permanent and physical representation of the individuals. It was natural for me to take that to the next level by using images I see personally when I am out and about to show people the world as I see it. It is my way, as an introvert to make a statement.
